Paris: T-3 days – The sealing and weighing of luggage

Today was another big step in getting the hell outta here: The official sealing and weighing of our monster luggage. We each have two pieces of the largest checkable luggage we could get, and today was their final packing. We also each have typical carryon roller bags, as well as a book bag for our laptops and stuff needed during the flight. In total, it’s a lot of crap. The plan is to live out of the latter items and not crack into the big monsters until reaching our final apartment in Paris.

The big beasts are interesting. I picked them up off Amazon quite a few months ago. They are Amazon Basics, and were stupidly cheap at only $73. Are they of Briggs & Riley quality? No way…But they only have to last one trip. We’ve never traveled with anything of this size. We are almost always carryon only travelers. This is a whole ‘nuther set of logistics.

Air France foolishly lets us bring two each, each one weighing up to 70 pounds. All are coming in around the mid-60 pound range, so we’ve wrung this out as much as we could. If we need more stuff, we’ll just buy it.

Is it a bad sign if your luggage weighs more than you?

We have also reached the time of final division of assets. We dragged a whole lot of crap to our current long term stay place. Now’s the time where we decide to pack it, toss it, or throw it in what little space is left in our storage locker. It feels wonderfully lightening.

We are getting antsy about moving on from our current long term stay place. We think we’ve already covered all contingencies and taken care of loose ends. It feels like we’re now just killing time. Sorta boring. And it allows our minds to wander, with a low grade anxiety we’ve forgot something. But we haven’t….I think.

Oh, we are both bitching loudly about being stuck having to drive a non-EV. We’ve been pushing all the wrong buttons and levers, expecting it to behave like a 21st century vehicle. Only a few more days of automotive hell…
